Announcing the kickoff to the Women’s Institute 2016-17 Women’s Leadership Lecture Series. On Friday, September 9th, we will be hosting a staged reading of “Molly’s Hammer,” a new play by Tammy Ryan about Pittsburgh peace activist — and woman leader — Molly Rush. The play just opened in St. Louis this spring to fabulous reviews.
Ms. Rush was part of the “Plowshares Eight” who famously protested nuclear weapons and helped to found the Thomas Merton Center. The play is based on a book by Pittsburgh author, scholar, and poet Liane Norman. All three women — playwright, activist, and author — will join us for the staged reading that evening and will participate in a panel / talk-back session after the reading. The event is a fundraiser for the Thomas Merton Center.
